By foot or bike
The Broerplein, with the Academiegebouw and the University Library, is within walking distance of the main train station. It’s about a 10 or 15-minute walk. If you like, you can hire a bicycle at the station. The way is very easy to find. To help you, we have included a map at the bottom of this page, or you can use the directions given by Google Maps. If you stand with your back to the station you will see the Groningen Museum in the canal in front of you. Walk towards it. Cross the bridge past the museum and continue walking straight ahead. Cross over the Zuiderdiep and continue straight on, into the Folkingestraat, towards the centre. Follow the Folkingestraat until you reach the Vismarkt. Continue straight ahead, past the Zwanestraat on your right, until you see the bookshop ‘Studystore’ on your right. Turn right here (Broerstraat). The entrance to the Academiegebouw is now on your left (up the stairs). The University Library is on your right.
There are several busses arriving and leaving at the Grote Markt or Aa-Kerk. These are the closest stops to the Academy Building. For timetables: www.9292ov.nl
There are a limited number of parking spaces available at the Academy building (Academiegebouw). Visitors are therefore adviced to use the general parking facility Ossenmarkt. From the Ossenmarkt car park, cross the nearest bridge and walk straight into the Oude Boteringestraat. Turn the second street right (third if you count the alley) and enter the Broerplein. The Academy building is located on your right.
Two parking spaces for disabled people are available at the Academy building parking lot. Please contact the reception upon arrival if you wish to make use of these spaces. (Tel. 050-363 5250). Reservations in advance cannot be made.
The building has a special side-entrance with an elevator on the left-handside. From here you have access to the Academia Restaurant and various floors of the old Academy Building (1111), as well as the adjoining new building (1112).
